Auction Results: Under the Influence, March 7, 2014 @Phillips

While Phillips had the least amount of photography value on offer during last week’s Armory sales, it did an admirable job with what it had to sell. The overall Buy-In rate came in under 25% and the Total Sale Proceeds flirted with the high end of the pre sale range.

The top lot by High estimate was tied between two lots: lot 147, Matthew Barney, Cremaster 5: Her Giant, 1997, and lot 232, Vik Muniz, Catherine Deneuve (from Pictures of Diamonds), 2004, both estimated at $50000-70000; the Barney was the top outcome of the sale at $118750, while the Muniz sold for $62500.

87.10% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range, and there were 3 surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate):
