Auction Results: Dorothea Lange: The Family Collection, Part Two (online), April 5, 2023 @Phillips

Following up on the first part of the family collection sale of Dorothea Lange photographs at Philips in October of last year (here), the results for the second part of the sale held last week were pretty lackluster. Aside from the top lot, which found a buyer above its estimate range, the rest of the sale muddled along, with an overall Buy-In rate of 60% and no positive surprises. In the end, the Total Sale Proceeds for the second part (of roughly $130K) came in below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.

The top lot by High estimate was lot 6, Dorothea Lange, White Angel Breadline, San Francisco, 1933/later, estimated at $15000-25000; it was also the top outcome of the sale at $40640 (image above via Phillips).

100.00% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were no positive surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate).
