Auction Results: Under the Influence, April 13, 2015 @Phillips London

It was a dismal outing for the photography mixed in among the contemporary art at Phillips’ Under the Influence sale earlier this week in London. With an overall Buy-In rate for photography over 45%, no (yes, not even one) positive surprises, and 35% of the lots that did sell finding buyers below the low estimate, it’s no wonder that the Total Sale Results missed the low end of the pre-sale range by a wide margin.

The summary statistics are below (all results include the buyer’s premium):

The top photography lot by High estimate was tied between two lots: lot 98, Shirin Neshat, Careless, 1997, (image in preview post) and lot 100, Gerard Rancinan, Yan Pei Ming Triptyque, 2011, both estimated at £15000-20000; the Neshat was the top photography outcome of the sale at £17500, while the Rancinan did not sell.

Only 65.00% of the photo lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were no surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate).

The featured image above comes from lot 171, Luisa Lambri, Two works: Untitled (Haus am Horn) (c), 2001, and Untitled (Haus am Horn) (d), 2001, estimated at £3000-4000, sold at £4375 (image above via Phillips).
