Auction Results: Post War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, July 2, 2021 @Christie’s London

The photographic results from the recent Post-War and Contemporary Art Day sale at Christie’s in London were generally underwhelming. A photographic work by Anselm Kiefer took the top lot honors at the low end of its estimate range, but with no positive surprises, the Total Sale Proceeds for photography came in at just over £280K, below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.

The top photography lot by High estimate was lot 579, Anselm Kiefer, Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen (Waves of love and the sea), 2011, estimated at £150000-250000; it was also the top photography outcome of the sale at £156250 (image above, via Christie’s).

Just 62.50% of the photography lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were no positive surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate).
