Christie’s single artist sale of the work of Peter Beard last week in New York proved that the demand for the artist’s work continues to be remarkably deep. The overall Buy-In rate for the 28 lots on offer came in under 15% and the Total Sale Proceeds fell solidly into the middle of the pre-sale estimate range.

The top lot by High estimate was lot 19, Peter Beard, Tsavo Tusker on the Athi-Tiva River, 1965, estimated at $200000-300000; it did not sell. The top outcome of the sale was lot 10, Peter Beard, Orphaned Cheetah Cubs, Mweiga, Kenya, 1968/1998, estimated at $150000-250000, sold at $449000.

91.67% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range, and there was only 1 surprise in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate:
