Auction Results: Fine Photographs, May 8, 2025 @Swann

The results from the Fine Photographs sale at Swann last week in New York were largely uneventful. The top lot Roy DeCarava portfolio did find a buyer, but under its estimate range, and the overall Buy-In rate crept up near 30%. Even with a number of positive surprises, the Total Sale Proceeds (of just under $790K) came in below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.

The top lot by High estimate was lot 80, Roy DeCarava, portfolio entitled Roy DeCarava, 1950-79/1991, estimated at $50000-75000; it was also the top outcome of the sale at $45000 (image above, via Swann).

Just 60.27% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were a total of 10 positive surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate)(images above via Swann):
