General price softness, especially in the no reserve lots, dampened the overall results at the recent Contemporary Discoveries sale at Sotheby’s in New York last week. The top photo lot Doug Aitken lightbox failed to sell, dropping the top lot honors to a print by Louise Lawler. With just one positive surprise (a print by Piotr Uklanski), the Total Sale Proceeds for photography (of roughly $315K) fell below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.
