Auction Results: Contemporary Curated, September 27, 2024 @Sotheby’s

It was an uneventful outing for the photographs included in the Contemporary Curated sale at Sotheby’s in New York last week. Two photo lots were withdrawn prior to the sale (works by Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Richard Prince) and although the the top photography lot Gerhard Richter work did sell within its estimate range, there were no positive surprises to otherwise balance the 25% overall Buy-In rate for photography. When the dust settled, the Total Sale Proceeds for photography (of roughly $335K) came in below the low end of the aggregate pre-sale estimate range.

The top photography lot by High estimate was lot 150, Gerhard Richter, Acht Lernschwesteren (Eight Student Nurses), 1971/1987, estimated at $200000-300000; it was also the top photography outcome of the sale at $240000 (image above, via Sotheby’s.)

100.00% of the lots that sold had proceeds in or above the estimate range and there were no positive photographic surprises in the sale (defined as having proceeds of at least double the high estimate).
