Auction Preview: Under the Influence, September 19, 2013 @Phillips

Phillips gets the Fall auction season started with its warm up Under the Influence sale later this week. There aren’t many surprises to be found among the photography offerings, but I’ll be interested to see how the Prager video and box of 6 prints does, as the demand for her work has been increasing. Overall, there are a total of 63 lots available, with a Total High Estimate of $1068000.

Here’s the statistical breakdown:

Preview Statistics
Total Low Lots (high estimate up to and including $10000) 21
Total Low Estimate (sum of high estimates of low lots) $151000
Total Mid Lots (high estimate between $10000 and $50000) 41
Total Mid Estimate $847000
Total High Lots (high estimate above $50000) 1
Total High Estimate $70000

The top lot by High estimate is lot 88, Vik Muniz, Bette Davis from Pictures of Diamonds, 2004, estimated at $50000-70000 (image above, left, via Phillips). Glittery Muniz diamond images like this one continue to be a favorite amongst collectors.
